RESUMO

A deep learning-based model for automatic diagnosis and classification of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis has been constructed. This model mainly included key points detection and Cobb angle measurement. 748 full-length standing spinal X-ray images were retrospectively collected, of which 602 images were used to train and validate the model, and 146 images were used to test the model performance. The results showed that the model had good diagnostic and classification performance, with an accuracy of 94.5%. Compared with experts' measurement, 94.9% of its Cobb angle measurement results were within the clinically acceptable range. The average absolute difference was 2.1°, and the consistency was also excellent (r2≥0.9552, P<0.001). In the future, this model could be applied clinically to improve doctors' diagnostic efficiency.

Background: The kangaroo-mother care method (KMC) is a skin-to-skin contact-centered care approach with numerous benefits for neonates, but its impact on the treatment of jaundiced neonates is unknown. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of KMC combined with neonatal phototherapy (NNPT) in treating neonates with non-pathological jaundice. Methods: Relevant articles were searched in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases from database establishment to April 2022. The outcomes included, without limitation, serum bilirubin levels, and duration of phototherapy. Results: This meta-analysis included five studies (4 randomized controlled trials and 1 observational study) involving four hundred eighty-two neonates with non-pathological jaundice. The results showed that the group receiving KMC combined with NNPT had lower serum bilirubin at 72 h after intervention [weighted mean difference (WMD) = -1.51, p = 0.03], shorter duration of phototherapy [standard mean difference (SMD) = -1.45, p < 0.001] and shorter duration of hospitalization (SMD = -1.32, p = 0.002) compared to NNPT group. There was no difference in peak bilirubin in both groups of neonates (WMD = -0.12, p = 0.62). Conclusions: KMC combined with NNPT helped to treat non-pathological jaundice in newborns compared to NNPT alone.

Polyzwitterionic hydrogels as skin wound dressings have been extensively studied owing to their superior antibacterial properties and skin adhesiveness, but their practical applications still suffer from a low adhesion strength and a high swelling ratio, which hinder the application of hydrogel for cutaneous healing. Here, we developed a novel biocompatible poly[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]dimethyl-(3-sulfopropyl)ammonium hydroxide (PolySBMA) composite hydrogel with high stretchability, low swelling, strong skin adhesiveness, and antibacterial effect for enhancing wound healing. Naturally rigid polymers including quaternized chitosan methacrylate (QCSMA) and gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) are used as bioactive cross-linkers to endow PolySBMA/QCSMA/GelMA (SQG) hydrogel with a low swelling ratio and high bioactivity. The optimized hydrogel has excellent mechanical flexibility, with the ultimate tensile strength, tensile strain, modulus, and toughness of up to 344.5 kPa, 364%, 14.7 kPa, and 33.4 kJ m-3, respectively. The adhesiveness of the hydrogel to the skin tissue is as high as 38.2 kPa, which is critical for stopping the bleeding from the wound. The synergistic contributions from the PolySBMA and QCSMA endow hydrogel with good antibacterial properties against both Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative Escherichia coli. Moreover, the natural polymer cross-linked polyzwitterionic hydrogel shows good cell activity, hemocompatibility, and histocompatibility. The in vivo full-thickness skin defect model demonstrates that the SQG hydrogel efficiently improves the granulation tissue formation and collagen deposition. In summary, such superiorly skin-adhesive antibacterial biocompatible hydrogel with controllable flexibility and swelling holds great promise as wound dressings for acute wounds.

This study was designed to explore the metabolic changes resulting from catch-up growth in adult (CUGA) induced by varying degrees of nutrition promotion after undernutrition and to confirm whether these changes are transient or not. The CUGA models were developed on rats refed on intakes of normal chow or high-fat diet after a period of caloric restriction. The growth of the rats measured by body weight and length stagnated during caloric restriction and then rapidly accelerated following refeeding. Catch-up growth in adult resulted in an increase in intramuscular and intrahepatic lipid content, visceral fat deposition, and insulin resistance, which is consistent with a transient rise in food efficiency during the early stage of refeeding. In addition, ectopic lipid deposition, visceral fat accumulation, and insulin resistance were more severe in rats refed the high-fat diet than rats refed the normal chow. These findings suggest that CUGA induced by rapid nutrition promotion could result in persistent lipid overaccumulation (increased visceral fat and ectopic lipid deposition) and drastic systemic insulin resistance. The effects of CUGA on metabolic characteristics are dependent on the type of diet that is used for refeeding, especially on the amount of fat intake.
